Where can I get a hearing test? - Lions pre-school screening program, First Step program (age 0-3), public schools, Physicians, Audiologists, Hearing Aid Dealers (over age 18).I need a Hearing Aid for work, but can’t afford where can I go? – Indiana Office of Vocational Rehabilitation for those 16 and over who need hearing to advance in job, keep job, and obtain job.
How loud is too loud? – Continued or repeated exposure to noise levels above 85 dB may damage hearing. Examples: lawn mower 90dB, stereo (over 120 watts) 110 dB, thunderclap 120dB, amplified rock concert 125dB, rocket 194dB.

What is a Cochlear Implant? – A cochlear implant is an electronic device designed to provide sound information for adults and children who have a profound sensironeural hearing loss (nerve deafness) in both ears and show no ability to understand speech through hearing aids.
Where can I find sources of assistance? – There are many sources of help.
Below are listed a few:
- First Steps Program; for children 0-3 with developmental disabilities. (1-800-441-Step)
- Children’s Special Health Care Services; help families of children with serious, chronic medical problems get treatment related to their child’s condition. (1-800 475-1355)
- Indiana Department of Public Welfare – check your local telephone directory for the office nearest you
- Hoosier Healthwise – information is obtained from the department of Welfare for those just above the Medicaid enrollee level.
- Office of Vocational Rehabilitation; check your telephone directory for the office nearest you.
- United Way; many times your local United Way agency can help you find the needed sources

I need to call someone who uses a TTY (TDD) and I don’t have one, how can I contact them? – You may call someone that communicates by TTY (TDD) by calling the Indiana Telecommunication Relay System at 1-800-743-3333.
What is a Stroke? – It’s a brain injury that occurs when blood flow to a part of the brain is interrupted. It is also known as a brain attack.
Are strokes predictable? – Health–care providers can often tell which people are at risk for stroke.
Are strokes preventable? – By learning about the risk factors, you may be able to prevent one from striking you
